So the future looks bright for these players. They now need to keep playing great football, stay fit and injury free and as they continue to work hard, the opportunities will come. Congratulations to all the boys, and we will keep you updated on their success.

Let’s start at the begining. The Football Federation Australia has announced the new direction, beginning with Small Sided Games (SSG). The idea involves 4V4, no goal keeper and a smaller playing area. This is aimed at players aged Under 6, 5V5 for 7- 8 years olds, 7V7 for 9-10 year olds, 9V9 for 11 and 12 year olds. The idea is that every player get’s a touch of the ball. The FFA has given all districts 3 years to comply with the new model. They have produced a 15 page handbook Small-Sided Games Format and The Parent Information Guide.

Now to the National Youth League (NYL). The NYL is set to begin in August 2008. This league is to assist our youth football players as they progress through the ranks. The Competition Format:
7 clubs
o        Adelaide United
o        Central Coast Mariners
o        Melbourne Victory
o        Newcastle Jets
o        Perth Glory
o        Queensland Roar
o        Sydney FC

Season: 21 rounds (18 games + 3 Byes)

Age 16 – 21 (must be 16 on 1 January in year the Youth League commences), maximum age is 21; must be no older than 20 on 1 January in the year Youth League commences.

15 Players on the team sheet.

Each Youth Player must receive a minimum of 30 minutes game time

4 over-age players (including Goal Keeper) allowed to play in Youth League Match

National Youth League Player Regulations
10 – 12  Youth Development Players per club

Youth Development Players will sign a Youth Development Agreement which is of amateur status

Minimum  agreement period– 1 season

Maximum  agreement  period – 2 years

Hyundai A-League Clubs can select any player within the age group, must be Australian (or in the process of obtaining citizenship) and can be from the AIS

Hyundai A-League clubs must draw replacement players from the Youth League Player Squad, except under certain circumstances.

Now we are not sure if the above will assist or hinder a young, talented footballer’s future but at least we are looking at what big clubs in Europe are doing. It’s a start.

Enjoying the experience of playing at the very highest level, Dylan came up against tough opposition in the Republic of Ireland, Norway and Albania.

Dylan is certainly an up and coming player to watch as he develops and matures. No doubt, the Malta National Team will keep their eyes on his progress and we could well see Dylan help Malta in the U21′s.

Although Patrick will continue playing for Blacktown City Demons during the 2009 NSW Premier Youth League it is anticipated that he will make regular trips to England to continue his training and development under a one year scholarship, with an option to sign the young player once he turns 16. We have watched Patrick play many games in the 2008 season and he certainly has the skill and the attitude to succeed. Rodrigo Palomino is Chilean born, played his football in Granville, NSW and was spotted by a scout one Saturday in 1994 playing for his team. Before he knew it he had airfares waiting for him at the airport. A ten day trial had been arrange by Belgium Club KSV Waregem. Having arrived late on the Thursday night. Friday meant a training run with the team even though he hadn’t recovered from jetlag. The following day, he played his first game against the top side fielding Belgium National players. Playing his best Rodrigo scores a goal, runs rings around the opposition and proves he has the match fitness to compete at the highest level. The contract is signed. Quite the fairy tale. Rodrigo a friend of ours agrees to this candid interview where we try to shed some light on the subject of fairy tales and success.

Q: Rodrigo at 21 when you were offered the trial, what where your initial thoughts? I thought that the scout was joking and didn’t really take him seriously.

Q: How did you adjust to your new surroundings? Country, Language, Team mates? It was very difficult in the begining.I just focused on performing on the field and then everything fell into place.

Q: You mentioned the speed at which the game was played when you arrived. Do you think much has changed in football? Yes,the game is just getting faster every year.

Q: In an article we researched, your named as, “The Conquerer” was this due to your scoring prowess? Yes.

 

Q: You played for numerous clubs abroad. Which was the best club in terms of your success? Royal Francs Borain was my most successful club.I spent 4yrs there and leading the goal scoring department every year.

Q: What are your thoughts about Football in Australia? Specifically Youth Development? Something has to be done about our youth.Youth development is non existant in Australia.Soccer Australia has to really start thinking about this section in our game if we want to produce world players and not players that go to England and hang around for a few years.We need players to be developed and take this country to world cups on a regular basis not every 30yrs.

Q: If you could have your time again, would you change anything about your football career? No, because although it is just a sport, it teaches you certain lessons on life and how the other part of the world circulates.
